In last week’s post I introduced a fantastic post by Tim Creasey titled Change Management Trends Outlook 2024 and Beyond. Tim is Prosci’s Chief Innovation Officer and a globally recognized leader in change management.
The post is based off of Prosci’s Best Practices in Change Management – 12th Edition research. Topics include:
- Top five expected organizational changes in 2024 and beyond.
- Artificial Intelligence and Change Management.
- Change management trends, discipline changes, and data.
This week, we will take a closer look at the first topic.

Top 5 expected organizational changes in 2024 and beyond
Research respondents identified the following as the top changes they expect their organizations to face in 2024 and beyond.
- Technology and digital transformation (this was the top response by 28% more than any of the next four)
- Regulatory changes and compliance
- Environmental sustainability and climate change
- Talent retention and turnover
- Cultural and organizational change
Tim’s post goes on to provide a definition of each of these changes. I encourage you to check it out.
What I found most interesting was that Prosci’s research took this information a step further and separated survey responses by eight different industries; Health Care, Consulting, Government / Federal, Manufacturing, Government / State, Education Services, Finance, and Insurance. This was a good reminder to me that a particular change may not affect everyone (in this case everyone = industry, but it could also mean individual people, teams, locations, different organizations within the same company, etc.) the same.
This was a good reminder that a particular change may not affect everyone the same.
As a change management practitioner, it was enlightening to see how people in different industries anticipated the top five changes to affect them. For example, respondents in the Finance industry expect technology and digital transformation to affect them more than any of the other seven industries while respondents in the Health Care industry expect this change to affect them less than any other industry. There was a 14% difference between Finance and Health Care.
Closing thoughts
I know it’s still early in 2024, but I’m curious to hear what your experience has been thus far. Do the top five changes identified in Prosci’s research resonate with what you’ve been experiencing? If you’re in an industry outside of the eight listed in Prosci’s post, what changes are you expecting to encounter in the near future? Please post your thoughts and comments below.
Thank you for reading. Until next time, take care and keep up the good work!
